CHRISTMAS

Christmas Prayer
By Gerard Manley Hopkins, 1844-1889.

Moonless darkness stands between.
Past, the Past, no more be seen!
But the Bethlehem star may lead me
To the sight of Him Who freed me
From the self that I have been.
Make me pure, Lord: Thou art Holy;
Make me meek, Lord: Thou wert lowly;
Now beginning, and always,
Now begin, on Christmas day.

Christmas Speaks To Me
By Fr. Wilfrid Duffy, s.m. (1915-1993)
Marist Father from England, w
ho taught at Marist College, Framingham, MA

Christmas speaks to me
Of inner peace the world can’t see,
The Joseph faith, the Mary love;
Creation’s summit stretched above,
And I am held by lovely earth
Until released by God’s own birth
Christmas speaks to me.

Christmas speaks once more to me
Of innocent straw,
And Blood stained tree.
Let me share the joy,
Of her who nursed God’s only Boy.
Golgotha is known to them
Who saw the truth of Bethlehem.
Christmas speaks once more to me.

<<BACK TO TOP>>

The season of Advent
is all about
light and hope.

The joy of Advent
is the joy of
expectation.

Merry Christmas from the Marist Brothers and Fathers of the USA Province

So, of all the symbols
of the season of Advent,
the person of the
Mother of God stands
as the largest—
the “door of Heaven’s
High King.”

It is she who bears the
Light to the world and,
in doing so, bears hope
to all who await
“the Good News.”
