Ministry Reflections

St. Patrick's with its imposing high altar is located in downtown Sydney, Australia. St. Patrick's offers the struggling, satisfied, anxious, fearful, powerless, and powerful a quiet place to spend time with God and learn from him what it is we have to do.

St. Patrick's offers a haven for those who have been away from the Church for some time to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Our founder Fr. Colin stressed Marists should be instruments of mercy. Mercy has been the standard since the Marists took on the pastoral care of St. Patrick's in 1868.

I am humbled and consider myself blessed to be one of the Marists who continue to extend God's mercy through the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

Additionally, every Saturday members of the Parish Team join volunteers from our parish, local students, and other like-minded people in offering about 60 homeless people a cooked breakfast.

I am particularly struck by the dedication of Bob Barber, SM (Provincial of Province of Australia) and Brian Wilson, SM (Oceania Mission Procurator). Every Saturday I am in the courtyard Bob and Brian are preparing sausages and eggs at the grill.

Nine words encapsulate how I feel about
my pastoral ministry at St. Patrick's:
"I am enjoying my priestly ministry
at Saint Patrick's."
