ARC 2018
(by Paul Freshette, SM, Society of Mary e-Bulletin • Volume 6/Issue 18: Oct. 19, 2018)

Dear Confreres:

By now you have received two consecutive SM Bulletins focusing on the Annual Review Consultation (ARC) and the many themes we provincials and regional superiors addressed with the General Administration, and often times, it was as one body discerning our future together.

I will take up these themes in upcoming meetings with the Council of the Province and the Provincial Council and, of course, will be in touch with all of you.

But it was not all work and no play, mind you! Check out these photos below. Sr. Judith Moore (Vicar General of the SMSMs) was our facilitator for two weeks, and she has a calm manner that helped us in dealing with important topics.

We ended the first week with a private tour of the Vatican Museum and we saw places that many do not see. We ended up in the Sistine Chapel alone as a group, and had a group picture taken! The following day we traveled to the Casa di Maria, where our professed and theologians are living (18 presently) and had a wonderful barbecue with them.

The next day, Sunday, Kenneth Njong Akua, from the Cameroons professed his final vows with Fr. John Larsen and a full chapel, followed by a catered meal so that our Mexican sisters could enjoy the festivities as well. On Sunday, October 14, some of us traveled to St. Peter’s for the canonization of 7 new saints, including Pope Paul VI and Monsignor Oscar Romero of El Salvador. We were 60,000 in attendance.
