Fr. Joel Konzen, SM to Receive National Award for Excellence in Education Ministry

Marist Fr. Joel Konzen, SM, Principal of Marist School in Atlanta, GA, has been selected as recipient of the National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA) Catholic Secondary Schools Department Educational Excellence Award for 2015.

According to the NCEA, the award is given to Catholic school educators "who deserve national recognition and reflect the richness and diversity of American Catholic Education."

Fr. Konzen took his first position at Marist School in 1980, where he remained for nine years, as, successively, teacher and admissions director, principal, and president. In 1989 he moved to Washington, DC, as a graduate student at Catholic University and Vicar Provincial of the former Marist Washington Province. In 1991, he received an MA in education administration from Catholic University, and from 1992 to 1997 he served principal and president at St. Michael's Catholic Academy in Austin, Texas. In 1997 he returned to Washington, DC, where he was Vicar Provincial for two years.

In 1999, Fr. Konzen returned to Marist School where he has since served as principal and has taught a leadership class to older students. He serves on the boards of Notre Dame Prep/Marist Academy (Pontiac, MI), Notre Dame Academy (Duluth, GA), and Cristo Rey Atlanta Jesuit High School.
