Prison Ministry
A center of refuge in the Diocese of Brownsville, Texas for unaccompanied minors who are waiting to be processed to join their sponsors (family members) in other parts of the United States. In this ministry Marists celebrate Mass, offer the Sacrament of Reconciliation, offer snacks and social time, and overall “provide a breath of fresh air” for the minors.
Boston, MA – Suffolk County House of Correction
The House of Correction has 27 different units – segregation, solitary, general population women and men, and two ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) sections. In this ministry Marists visit detainees to meet, speak, sit, pray, conduct services, and hear confessions.
In this ministry Marists plan and present retreats and services for families of the incarcerated and seek volunteers to help. The primary focus is spending time with the inmates – bringing Communion, offering confession, leading scripture studies and discussions, and offering the opportunity for conversation.
